Our clients have told us that a professional and complete profile is the #1 reason why they chose to invite a freelancer to interview for a gig. Increase your chances of getting booked with a few simple steps:

  1. Answer all of the profile questions.

Keep answers at 2-3 sentences long and you’re golden. You can do this by selecting “Edit Profile” in your Dashboard.

  2. Use a professional picture.

Selfies, Snapchat filters, and that picture with your friend cut out isn’t cutting it.

  3. Pass an exam.

Certified team members show up in search results first!

PRO TIP #1  | TAKE A MINUTE TO BE SELF-AWARE

As freelancers, we have a diverse set of experiences and skills to bring to a project. This makes you an invaluable team member, but also can be really hard to clearly articulate your value online. We often feel inclined to share everything all at once or feel stuck because we cannot decide what is the best way to fit everything we do in one paragraph.

So before you begin to fill out your profile (link), take a minute to review the fields and questions you have to answer about yourself.

Be clear about who you are as an event professional and what makes you stand out.

  • What level of experience, expertise, and knowledge can you bring to the table?

  • What does your next gig or team look like?

  • Determine the tone of voice and vibe you want to give off. Like attracts like!

PRO TIP #2 | PICKING THE RIGHT HAPPILY PROFILE PICTURE

Your Happily profile picture is critical to your career success and one of the most powerful methods to tell your brand story. Here is why you should

Take it from us, invest in the time to get yourself some great headshots and set the tone for your next opportunity! Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Smiling is the universal welcome symbol

  • Dress in a way that reflects who you are and is relevant for your target audience.

For more ways to help you pick the right profile, check out our Happily Profile Guidelines.

PRO TIP #3 | KEEP YOUR BIO SHORT & SWEET

Your bio is the first thing a client sees after your photo and could make or break whether they read more about you. Whether you are new to the industry or a seasoned veteran, this is your 3-second elevator pitch to capture the client’s attention!

  • Write in the first person

  • Keep it less than 140 characters

  • Share unique skills or experiences that set you apart from others

PRO TIP #4 | POSITIVITY WINS!

Clients are scanning for a positive tone and attitude when reading your profile. They’re thinking “Can I jump into the fire with this person? Are they a great addition to our team?” We encourage everyone to consistently share positive stories, experiences, and vibes throughout your time with Happily. We know that the event industry has its ups and downs, but remember that profile is the “initial interview” before the interview. So keep it light, friendly and positive.

PRO TIP #5 | K.I.S.S.

Keep. It. Super. Simple. There’s certainly an art to responding to your profile questions in simple sentences and small paragraphs. Experiences are hard to describe, but your ability to communicate those effectively can give you a serious advantage. Being too short can give off the vibe that you’re not really looking to find a gig, but also being too wordy can put a client to sleep!

PRO TIP #6 | PROOFREAD. SPELLCHECK. REVISE.

Events are all about the details, so don’t forget to double-check your work! Avoid typos and be buttoned up. After editing your profile click SAVE; then click VIEW PUBLIC PROFILE to review your content for any errors. If you need to revise, click EDIT PROFILE and don’t forget to hit SAVE again!

PRO TIP #7 | RAISE YOUR HAND

If you are still having trouble with creating your profile, whether it is a technical issue or the question is confusing, please do not hesitate to reach out! Post in Happily’s Private Facebook Group available to get supportive feedback and tips from the team. And, of course, you can always email me at frances@Happily.io for 1:1 advice.

PRO TIP #8 | BE A LIGHT AND SHINE ON!

We want to get to know you and to remember events are meant to be fun, memorable and impactful. Enjoy the process and let’s find you your next gig!
